Horizontal Chillers

Horizontal Chillers

Horizontal chillers are typically used on rooftops, mainly to be hidden from view. Most businesses that are within city limits are required to have a parapet to conceal rooftop equipment. Because fast food and other businesses began installing so many remote condensers and large HVAC RTUs it was making commercial roof-lines very unattractive. The top three reasons to use a horizontal chiller rather than a vertical chiller are:

  1. They are below the parapet in most cases (often a city code requirement).
  2. We recommend spanning as many roof support trusses as possible, making the lower, wider footprint an advantage as it allows the weight to be disbursed over a wider area and may help span additional trusses.
  3. Ease of service on a rooftop: it's riskier for service technicians to be on a ladder on a rooftop edge with no safety harness or net below, and it's much easier to change a condenser fan motor on a horizontal unit when on the roof.
  4. Mobility! If you're considering a trailer mounted / mobile chiller, horizontal is the way to go! The protective panels and uni-body frame of horizontal units help protect sensitive components and avoid flex of refrigerant lines.
ChillX - 15-25 Ton Horizontal Dual Circuit Chillers

Our 15 to 25 Ton RTU-style Dual Circuit Chillers are the largest of our pre-packaged designs (chillers larger than 25 Ton are generally more custom, and require a consult). The most notable difference from our 7.5-12.5 Ton Horizontal units is the very large built-in reservoir and more larger footprint, intended to spread the weight of the unit over a wider area, making it our best large design for roof mounts. These units have a built-in 137-308 Gallon stainless steel reservoir with massive, "no-freeze" in-res evaporators.

ChillX - 7.5-12.5 Ton Horizontal Dual Circuit Chillers

Our 7.5 to 10 Ton Horizontal Dual Circuit Chillers are among our most efficient and most requested designs. The most notable difference from our 6 Ton Horizontal unit is the dual circuit configuration which offers redundancy as well as a dramatically better power consumption profile for users with randomized or less than maximum demand patterns. These units have a built-in 77 Gallon stainless steel reservoir with our massive, "no-freeze", in-res evaporators.

ChillX - 6 Ton Horizontal Chillers

Our 6 Ton Horizontal (Single Circuit) Chillers have the same small foot print as our 4&5 Ton Horizontal Chillers, stands just a few inches taller. The most notable difference in the 6 Ton Horizontal unit is the big jump to a 65 Gallon rather than the 50 Gallon built-in reservoir in the 4 & 5 Ton Horizontal units. Not only do you get an extra 1-2 ton of capacity, you also get an extra 15 Gallons! Just as with the 4 & 5 Ton Horizontal units, the 6 Ton can be upgraded with options for Low Temp, Hot Gas Recovery, Expansion Ports, Auto-Fill, and Redundant Pump.

ChillX - 2 & 3 Ton Horizontal RTU-Style Chillers

ChillX Chillers: Custom built, Horizontal (RTU-Style) and Vertical orientations are available from 1 to 100 tons! An auto fill mechanism is available on all models with built-in reservoirs. Water distribution manifolds can be custom built to meet your exact needs and drastically reduce the normal manifold and piping footprint. Our innovative manifold designs reduce what can be a complex array of control valves and fittings to a device which fits in a cabinet of 30"W X 19"H X 12"D!

ChillX - 4 & 5 Ton Horizontal Chillers (By Chillking)

CHILLX CHILLERS: Custom, Horizontal (RTU-style), and Vertical configurations are available from 1/2 to 100 tons. An auto fill mechanism is available on all models with tanks. Water distribution manifolds can be constructed to meet your exact needs. Our innovative distribution water manifold drastically reduces the normal manifold footprint. Our innovative manifold designs fit in a cabinet 30"W X 19"H X 12"D. In most cases up to ten pieces of equipment can be run on this manifold system.
